On the afternoon of Sunday, June 9th, 2019, the Carey graduates gathered together to celebrate the fruitful results of years of hard work with their teachers, classmates, family and friends. We would like to congratulate all the 2019 graduates of Carey Theological College and wish them the best in their future endeavors for the Kingdom of God.
Reverend Dr. Philip Collins, aged 88, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2019. Collins was the Principal of Carey Hall from 1985 to his retirement in 1994. Known as a kind, faithful and discerning leader, Collins helped to solidify Carey’s mission as both a Christian residence and a theological institution. He was also a member of the faculty, serving as the Director of Field Education and helped to establish the Certificate in Ministry first for Mustard Seed Church, and then for international work in Kenya, where he travelled to teach with other faculty members.

The world has experienced an unprecedented decline in qualified and capable Christian leaders. Addressing the need for strong Christian leadership in the church and in the world continues to be a priority for Carey Theological College. Our accredited theological degree programs enable us to train pastors and ministry leaders in Canada and around the world, and our Christian residence at the University of British Columbia disciples 40 undergraduate residents.
Dr. Clement Tong, Assistant Professor in Biblical Studies and Director of Educational Initiatives (Chinese Ministries), will be concluding his service at Carey Theological College upon completion of his term of service in August to pursue other opportunities.
By demonstrating integrity and complying with the CCCC Standards of Accountability, Carey Hall has earned the right to display the Seal of Accountability.
Congratulations to Carey Professor, Dr. Bill Brackney, on the release of his new theological work, The Spirit among the Dissenters: Other Voices in Understanding the Spirit of God (February 2019). The book is published by Wipf and Stock of Eugene, Oregon. Dr. Brackney indicates this is the first of his efforts to produce popular, church-useful scholarship on contemporary theological topics.
Dr. John W. Shouse has been appointed director of the Carey D.Min. Stream in Preaching and Worship. Dr. Shouse is currently professor of theology at Gateway Seminary in Ontario, California. He has taught in preaching and worship and theology and the dramatic arts for several decades and is a published writer and recognized speaker.
Dr. Santa Ono, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia, and his wife, Mrs. Wendy Yip-Ono, UBC Ambassador, invited the student residents of Carey to celebrate the end of the school year with them. On April 5, they graciously hosted 35 students and a few members of the Carey staff at the Norman Mackenzie House, the residence of all past and present Presidents of UBC.
