CAREY WELCOMES NEW FACULTY MEMBER – CHUN TSE, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF BIBLICAL STUDIES (NEW TESTAMENT)

After a competitive and global search, Carey Theological College is excited to welcome Dr. Chun Tse as Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies (New Testament).

Chun Tse grew up in Hong Kong and moved to the United States to pursue his studies in electrical engineering, earning a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. In 2001, Chun and his wife received a call to full-time ministry at a theological conference in New York. Subsequently, he earned his Master of Divinity at Bethel University in Minnesota and Master of Theology at Westminster Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania. He was a congregational pastor at Monmouth Community Christian Church and a visiting pastor at Rutgers Community Christian Church in New Jersey.

In the Fall of 2019, Chun Tse moved to Scotland with his family to pursue a doctorate in systematic theology at the University of Edinburgh, completing the degree in 2022. His research focused on the theology of assurance of the Scottish theologian Thomas Boston. His 2020 book, Assurance of Adoption: A New Paradigm for Assurance of Salvation (Wipf & Stock), explores the biblical and theological theme of certainty in the New Testament.

Carey Theological College looks forward to Chun’s contribution as a scholar, teacher, and pastor as he joins Carey’s mission to prepare men and women as pastors, missionaries, and Christian leaders in Canada and around the world.

"During the interview process," notes Dr. Colin Godwin, President of Carey Theological College, "Chun demonstrated his commitment to the authority of the Bible and a passion for the ministry and mission of the local church. I believe that Dr. Tse’s careful study of the New Testament in the context of Christian ministry will enable him to bring Carey’s students to a deeper appreciation of Scripture and its application in the local church."

Chun shared, "I am delighted to join Carey Theological College and be part of the team to advance God’s kingdom through high-quality, accessible, and affordable theological education. I look forward to teaching and researching the truths of Scripture and applying them in the spiritual and theological formation of the students."
