Dr. Joyce Chan Recognized by the Carey Board of Administration
Today we recognize and celebrate the leadership and many contributions of Rev. Dr. Chung-Yan (Joyce) Chan, as she concludes her service as Vice President Academic and resumes her continuing role at Carey Theological College as Professor of Church History.
In her more than five years as V.P. Academic, Dr. Chan has overseen the development of new degree programs in English, Chinese and Spanish with ATS approval, improvement of Carey’s overall online education quality and experience, revisions to the faculty handbook, and the search for new core faculty members.
Anyone who knows Joyce will agree that she has given great energy to her work, and has brought vision and breadth to her responsibilities. An expert on details, not much gets past Dr. Chan. Perhaps most importantly for a Christian educational institution, Joyce’s deep commitment to living and teaching the message of Scripture has influenced everyone who comes into contact with her, from staff to faculty to students. She has sought to put Jesus first in everything that she does, including her everyday duties as the V.P. Academic in the past five years.
We look forward to the fruits of Joyce’s newest research during her upcoming sabbatical, formulating a theology of diaspora reflecting upon the Chinese immigrant experience, particularly in the Canadian context. Dr. Chan is a well-respected scholar and her published work has drawn much attention. Even more, she is a highly respected minister among both the Chinese and English-speaking communities.
Upon Dr. Chan’s return in April, 2021, she will resume full faculty duties in teaching, student formation, community service and continuing scholarly activities.
In recognition of her distinguished service as V.P. Academic (2014-2020) at Carey Theological College, the Carey Board of Administration is pleased to award a certificate to recognize Dr. Joyce Chan’s contributions.
