With great sadness, we would like to inform you of the passing of Dr. William H. Brackney (Bill) on Sunday, November 13, 2022. Bill brought significant experience from his years of ministry to the academic role at Carey Theological College. He first joined us as a Visiting Scholar and a Co-Director of the Doctor of Ministry program in 2017. Bill then continued serving at Carey and was appointed as the Pioneer MacDonald of Baptist Theology and Ethics. Later on, Bill also took the responsibility of becoming the Interim Academic Dean in 2020. 

As a highly respected professor, Bill provided student advising and theses supervision for our DMin students. During his time at Carey, he published a theological work entitled The Spirit among the Dissenters: Other Voices in Understanding the Spirit of God (February 2019). He indicated that it was the first of his efforts to produce popular, church-useful scholarship on contemporary theological topics. We were also delighted to be able to celebrate with him for the publication of Crossing Baptist Boundaries, a festschrift in honour of Dr. William H. Brackney. Carey’s President, Rev. Dr. Colin Godwin, presented the book to Bill in the presence of his family, students, and colleagues.

We are grateful for his contributions and services to Carey. Bill will forever be remembered as a gifted scholar, a wise professor, and a committed follower of Christ.

The funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM on Thursday, November 17, 2022, in Wolfville Baptist Church, 487 Main Street, Wolfville, NS, B4P 1E3. We send our deepest condolences to his friends, family and loved ones as they grieve the passing of Dr. William H. Brackney.
