THE BAPTIST CONGREGATIONS

It is helpful to look inside an imaginary widow on a Baptist congregation. What we see is a faithful gathering of God’s people gathered for worship and prayer. In the center of the inner scene is a sacred desk called the pulpit, from which God’s Word is proclaimed. There is also a table for the setting of the Lord’s Supper, and there may be an indoor baptistery. Baptists are personally together as a company of God’s people. Baptists are strong on the idea of a pastorally-led style of congregational leadership, including spiritual servants called deacons. Baptists describe ministry as of the “whole people of God,” or the “priesthood of all believers
