It is with both joy and sadness that we announce the departure of Dr. Jimmy Chan from Carey Theological College. For the past three years, Jimmy has served as Assistant Professor of Theology, enriching our community with his deep commitment to pastoral theology, scholarly excellence, and heartfelt dedication to our students and mission.
Jimmy has been a beacon of spiritual and academic leadership, embodying the words of the Apostle Paul: "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). His journey with us has been marked by a passionate pursuit of equipping kingdom-minded disciples to serve Christ and His Church, and we have been blessed by his presence, wisdom, and friendship.
As Jimmy transitions to his new role as Executive Director of the Alliance Bible Seminary Centre of Canada, he leaves us with these heartfelt words:
Serving the Lord as a pastor-theologian has been my calling for some years now, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to begin this journey at Carey in 2021. Thank you, Carey Board of Administration, for welcoming me to Carey. I am grateful to Rev. Dr. Colin Godwin, Sam Nakai and Sarah To and all the academic and administrative staff for their support and tireless work for our students and the faculty, and to all my colleagues, past and present, in the Faculty. To Dr. Wil Rogan and Dr. Chun Tse: It has been an honour and a privilege to work with you during these years. May God bless your scholarship. I am grateful to God and to Carey for giving me the opportunity to teach core courses in the areas of Theology in three languages (English, Cantonese and Mandarin) to students from all over the world and to pray for them, to travel to different countries to present papers, to represent Carey at CBWC retreat 2021 and ATA 2022 annual meeting, to participate in the library committee in the search for Chinese digital library resources, to contribute to various curriculum and academic policy discussions during these years and to the drafting of the 2024 accreditation report. I pray that the seeds we have sown in our students will one day bear fruit as they serve the Lord in different parts of the world. It has truly been a blessing to meet all the colleagues and students in Christ. God willing, our paths will cross again. May the Lord continue to help Carey equip kingdom-minded disciples to serve Christ and His Church. God bless you all!
On behalf of Carey Theological College, I express our deepest gratitude to Jimmy for his invaluable contributions and the spiritual legacy he leaves behind. His vision, respect for others, and dedication to God's call have been an inspiration to us all. As he embarks on this new chapter, we pray for God's continued guidance and blessing upon his life and ministry. Jimmy’s last day at Carey will be August 14, 2024.
"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit" (Romans 15:13).
In Christ's service,
Rev. Dr. Colin Godwin
President, Carey Theological College
