Dr. Clement Tong, Assistant Professor in Biblical Studies and Director of Educational Initiatives (Chinese Ministries), will be concluding his service at Carey Theological College upon completion of his term of service in August to pursue other opportunities.

Congratulations to Carey Professor, Dr. Bill Brackney, on the release of his new theological work, The Spirit among the Dissenters: Other Voices in Understanding the Spirit of God (February 2019). The book is published by Wipf and Stock of Eugene, Oregon. Dr. Brackney indicates this is the first of his efforts to produce popular, church-useful scholarship on contemporary theological topics.

SHOUSE APPOINTED DOCTOR OF MINISTRY STREAM DIRECTOR

Dr. John W. Shouse has been appointed director of the Carey D.Min. Stream in Preaching and Worship. Dr. Shouse is currently professor of theology at Gateway Seminary in Ontario, California. He has taught in preaching and worship and theology and the dramatic arts for several decades and is a published writer and recognized speaker.

END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH UBC’S PRESIDENT

Dr. Santa Ono, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of British Columbia, and his wife, Mrs. Wendy Yip-Ono, UBC Ambassador, invited the student residents of Carey to celebrate the end of the school year with them. On April 5, they graciously hosted 35 students and a few members of the Carey staff at the Norman Mackenzie House, the residence of all past and present Presidents of UBC.

There are opportunities to learn about, and connect with many different mission agencies, to take in seminars, participate in sessions, and mingle with hundreds of brothers and sisters who share a common passion for the church’s mission.

Carey professors Chan and Brackney have joined major global specialists in an examination of religious perspectives on the poor and poverty. Their essays are found in a recently released book, Poverty and the Poor in the World’s Religious Traditions: Religious Responses to the Problem of Poverty (2019).

The William Carey Centre for Excellence in Ministry, created in 2018 by the President and the Board of Administration, has produced its first scholarly publication, Baptists in Early North America: Vol. V: Welsh Neck, South Carolina.
