Prayer for Revival - Habakkuk 3:2-6

The following is a liberal paraphrase of a message on Habakkuk 3:2-6 preached by Charles Spurgeon in 1856, adapted for Advent 2020.

How are you weathering the pandemic storm? Do you find yourself sometimes critical of others? Even in times of trial, Habakkuk 3 urges us to ask God to “repeat his mighty deeds in our day.” Habakkuk 3 is a prayer for revival.

One person says, “Bring us a pastor to revive us! If only we had better worship! If only we had better preaching! If only we had more money!”As if that was what was really necessary. But our prayer should be, “May the Lord come into our hearts! May he make them full of his power! May he repeat his mighty deeds in us.” For God does not need a new set of people or new leaders for his purposes. He wants renewed life and renewed power in those who already belong to Him.
